Effect of Mercury on blood components of fresh water edible fish Labeo rohita

چکیده

Effect of mercury on blood and its components of fish Labeo rohita was carried out in this study. The LC50 dose of 57.074 mg/L and mercuric chloride exposure for 96 h resulted in significant changes in the physico-chemical properties such as hemoglobin, osmotic fragility and blood cell counts. Further, mercury exposure also caused a considerable reduction in the sulf-hydryl group of glutathione peroxidase in erythrocytes. The findings are further discussed with relation to mercury toxicological studies.
